Dunedin beach dog photoshoot

What dog doesn't love the beach?

And here in Dunedin we are blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world!

If your dog loves the beach it's a great place to have a photoshoot.

meet Mika

nickname: Missy Moo

breed or bitsa mix: lab/collie X

most endearing feature: her desire to please

loves: people

quirky habit: following her owner around the house to every room including the bathroom!

most annoying habit: fear of loud noises (as it's hard to prevent some)

favourite food: any food! (gotta be that part lab)

lives: near the beach in Dunedin (unless on adventures with her owner)

the rescue dog who also rescued her owner!

Mika came into her owner, Heather's, life as a rescue dog.

Heather's previous dog Jake had died suddenly when he was only 8 years old. It's not hard to imagine the heartache.

"Mika was my saviour and has helped me ever since," says Heather.

Heather and Mika's favourite thing to do together is go for a long walk on the beach.

the perfect location

Mika is lucky enough to live with her owner within walking distance of the beach.

They are often up early and among the first on the beach. What a perfect way to start the day! #feelingenvious

As this pair spend so much time at the beach it was the natural choice for their shoot location.

After shooting some portraits we were blessed with a most gorgeous sunset.

To be able to use that beautiful golden light to create some fun silhouettes with such a lovely, warm feeling is a photographer's dream.

And then it just got better and better as the sun sank behind the hills and for about 10 minutes we had those gorgeous pink and purple tones.

Bliss! Just bliss.
